ABOUT FAVEBLOG

FaveBlog is the collective website of the Melancon family. Operated by the mom and dad of said family (Holli and Joseph) the site is all about sharing our experiences, thoughts/values, and favorite things surrounding our adventures in parenthood, creativity, and personal growth.

ABOUT THE FAVES

We (Holli and Joseph Melancon) met while attending Troy University in Troy, AL. Through a series of strange circumstances, we became very close friends rather quickly and stayed that way for the remainder of our stay in that city (about six years in all). We called one another "Favorites" or "Faves" to declare that each was the other's favorite friend. Maybe not a literal statement, but it was definitely a special distinction and was the start of a special, close bond.
Anyhoo, after a long time of not being a couple we eventually got married because of love and logic! Soon after that, we had ourselves a baby boy named Gabriel. The three of us, along with our dog Charley, make up the Melancon family (which is pronounced kinda like meh-LAUGH-sogh or me-LAW-son or something like that. Don't worry about it. It's a Cajun name so imagine it all Frenchy-sounding.). We currently live in the awesome city of Columbus, GA and are loving our lives quite a lot.
We started this blog, at first, to share baby pictures and home movies with family and loved ones who live far away, but then we realized we could also use it as a platform to share our respective creative endeavors, tell stories, give input on stuff, and generally have a place to communicate as a family. It will also be a kind of hub or landing ground that can be used to keep up with our solo projects and whatever else we are doing on the web as individuals.
We love the values of creativity, simplicity, reasonableness, and love among others. That's the kind of stuff we'll mostly be blogging about, along with whatever else strikes us as blog-worthy. It's pretty casual, you see. It is only the internet, after all.

JOSEPH

So many creative aspirations so little time. All I want to do is spend time with loved ones and make good art (you can check out some of my art and other things on my tumblr). One day, I hope to do just that and not much more. Until then, I will be failing my way to stardom. You are invited to watch.

Age: 27

Profession: Graphic Designer at Columbus State University

Favorites: Drawing comics and illustrations; watching TV, movies, theatre, and internet videos; making and appreciating music; attempting to be some kind of writer; spending quality time with loved ones; logic, thinking, researching, and learning; writing long-winded, often rambling blog entries; oxford commas; saving money; being right and/or seeking truth; chocolate and eating like an eleven-year-old.

Least Favorites: Wastefulness; bigotry/closed-mindedness; thoughtlessness; selfishness/greed; someone/something taking themselves/itself too seriously; "drama"; asparagus; southern weather in the summer; anytime I can't figure something out or understand a concept; overpriced things.

HOLLI

I’m a writer, wife, coffee addict, new mom, book fiend & obsessive dog owner. I spend my days working in communications for a nonprofit, being a mom, freelancing, spending too much time on social media and blogging for the best blog ever Almost There. <Go to there and see it! I, like my husband, enjoy too many creative ventures, though most of mine revolve around cooking, home decorating, entertaining and word-smithing.

Age: 27
Profession: Communications Director for the Chattahoochee Valley Episcopal Ministry
Favorites: Being with my little family (seriously, I’m crazy in love with them!), reading, blogging, running, creating, crafting, coffee, watching too much TV, running, simple living, cooking, making my house a home, avoiding the oxford comma at all costs and being social.
Least Favorites: Selfishness, when people take advantage of the vulnerable; fighting, yelling and other nonsense; escalators; heights; math of any kind

GABRIEL

Life is hard, you guys. I don't even get it. But, for the most part, I'm happy. I'm excited and driven to learn all I can about everything I can. But I also realize that I can't do it all at once. One must take small measures to achieve their goals one thing at a time; "baby-steps", you might call it.
Age: 0
Profession: Diaper-Filler
Favorites: Trying to figure everything out—and I mean EVERYTHING; sleeping; pooping; eating; sticking my tongue out; tummy time; classical music; making faces that resemble smiles but really I have no idea what I'm doing (but I really am happy, honest!); being cute as heck; posting stuff on social media (#gabethebabe <follow my stuff); clothes with animal faces on the butt; chillin' with the folks, family, and friends; traveling.
Least Favorites: Getting my diaper changed (I worked hard on that!); thermometer to the pit; thermometer to the ear; thermometer to the butt...I generally dislike having my temperature taken.

CHARLEY

I’m a part-lab, part-who-knows-what-else mix, but I’m a mighty fine dog. I’m black, medium, fluffy, sweet and wonderful (all according to what my mom tells me). I spend my days dreaming about being outside, scrounging for drops of human food and sleeping.

Age: 5
Profession: Guard
Favorites: Walking; attention; food; sleep; sunbathing; pooping (I get really excited when I go); and spinning in circles
Least Favorites: Maintenance workers of any kind; not getting any of those things I mentioned above
